Kempenfelt Rebuild
This Barrie waterfront renovation on Kempenfelt Bay transformed a home originally built in stages—partly from a converted horse stable—into a fully updated retreat. While the retired owners spent six months in Florida, we completed a full structural rebuild of large portions of the home. This included raising ceilings from 7′ to 9′, removing interior posts, and adding larger windows and patio doors to enhance light and views.
The floor plan was reconfigured to improve flow, featuring pocket doors, a remodeled powder room, and a custom principal ensuite finished in dramatic black tile—one owner’s personal dream. The owners were delighted to return home to find the house move-in ready—with 2% milk in the fridge, as requested.
Special touches include drywall returns and tile reveals instead of traditional wood trim, heated floors throughout tiled areas, and custom placement for a cherished ornament beside the refurbished fireplace. The attic was insulated, finished with plywood, and made easily accessible for storage.
Outside, we rebuilt the roof over the atrium, upgraded the deck while adding a glass railing, and replaced the front door and siding to unify old and new elements. With proper permitting and careful finishing, this home now blends modern comfort with its original charm—ready for many seasons to come.
