Modern Mansard
This project involved transforming a beloved generational home, originally built by the client’s father. Over the years, it served as a seasonal retreat for the family.
A unique feature of the original design was the front door, which had been blocked by a spiral staircase and was purely decorative. This meant that guests were always welcomed through the side entrance, leading directly into the laundry room. To make the front door functional, we redesigned the staircase, replacing it with an L-shaped, open-riser design that complemented the flooring and maintained an airy feeling.
To modernize the exterior while preserving abundant natural light, we installed a curtain wall across the front of the house, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
The cottage’s DIY charm included picture-frame moulding on nearly every wall. As this was no longer desired, we removed it and added wide plank shiplap to the two-story vestibule – a modern update that honoured the home’s character.
Country Ranch Revival
This country ranch home had seen better days and was in dire need of repairs and modern updates. The kitchen was outdated, the bathrooms remained original since the house was built, and the garage foundation had dropped a staggering 6 inches, causing significant structural concerns. Additionally, the front veranda, held together by deteriorating railroad ties, along with a crumbling retaining wall, had become a safety hazard and an eyesore.
Our renovation team took on the challenge, addressing the failing garage foundation and reinforcing the home’s structural integrity. We replaced the rotten veranda and retaining wall with durable, attractive materials that not only repaired the damage but also significantly enhanced the home’s curb appeal. Inside, we brought the kitchen and bathrooms up to modern standards, incorporating the homeowners’ style while ensuring electrical safety and implementing new finishes throughout the house.
The result? A safer, beautifully updated home that the family can enjoy for years to come.
Retirement Retreat
Embarking on a downsizing journey, this family transformed an early 1980s bungalow into their forever home. With retirement on the horizon, the couple envisioned a cozy, comfortable home. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, the dated bungalow underwent a comprehensive modernization.
Situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, the dated bungalow was in dire need of modernization. Walls were removed and spaces reconfigured to create an open layout. Crucial repairs to the basement walls were also addressed.
Brighter, larger doors were installed to infuse the interior with natural light, while a spacious kitchen with an island became the heart of the home. Thoughtfully selected feature lighting and warm, inviting colours and textures enhanced the ambiance. Now, the new owners enjoy the comfort and beauty of their renovated home, looking forward to years of joyful living.
Townhouse Renewal
Revitalizing an early 1970s flat roof six-unit structure, this project transformed outdated rental units into modern, desirable homes. Partly built up by previous builders, the renovation began with a thorough demolition, moving from the basement up, including essential asbestos abatement.
The comprehensive upgrades included installing new windows, doors, electrical systems, plumbing, and insulation. Each unit now features individual meters for water, natural gas, and hydro, ensuring accurate billing. The exterior was meticulously finished to blend seamlessly with adjacent buildings, and patios were built for each unit, fully landscaped for a welcoming outdoor space. New asphalt added the finishing touch to the revitalized property.
By taking the ‘bones’ of the existing building and turning it into a profitable venture for the client, this project exemplifies the potential of thoughtful renovation. Remarkably, all six units were rented out within weeks of completion, promising long-term investment benefits for years to come.
Main Floor Renovation
Looking for a transformation straight from the pages of a magazine, the client envisioned a sleek, modern update for their main floor. To achieve this, no detail was overlooked.
Every existing finish was stripped down to the subfloor, clearing the way for premium LVP flooring to cover the entire space. The new kitchen features custom millwork quartz countertops, and an integrated backsplash. Additional upgrades include modern appliances, under-counter lighting, and ample storage solutions.
New blinds and a wall-mounted TV were installed, while the removal of a wall at the top of the basement stairs was replaced with matching wire railing to provide a seamless transition between spaces.
The result? A main floor that exceeds expectations, delivering the magazine-worthy space the client had in mind.
